When you think that all diets already exist, Valerie Childs came with a great and innovative alternative, explaining the hormones present in our body and how they interact with the food we ingest. The recipes are great and very well-documented with the exact amounts. I recommend this as a diet alternative to lose weight and balance your ingest of food.
Women=hormones. If your hormones are fried (and likely they are if you don't get enough sleep on a regular basis, have basic life stress, eat too much sugar/gluten/dairy, and have ever taken the pill) - then you are fried. Our bodies function based on the delicate interplay of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, thyroid, etc. and understanding how they all work, interact, and can so easily get out of whack is critical to feeling great. ...more

This is a new revolution in weight loss called "intermittent fasting." Studies have clearly shown that our body responds to the fasting by boosting growth hormone, the hormone that helps build muscle. It involves the avoidance of food intake for one day per week. Now this might seem to counter my viewpoint on cutting calories, but if done properly it will not cause muscle deterioration and can actually help greatly in the treatment of chronic pain and metabolic syndromes.  During your cleanse day you should drink at least 4 liters of warm or cold herbal teas to support the cleansing process. I recommend a combination of herbs with anti-inflammatory and diuretic benefits such as ginger, lemon, blueberry, hibiscus, dandelion, green tea and parsley.  You can consume one or two hard-boiled eggs in the morning or a serving of nuts in the afternoon if you feel overly hungry.

As nutritional ketosis or “keto” grows in popularity, I see more women struggle with it. Certainly, there are some people who go on the ketogenic diet, see all the benefits of mental acuity and fat loss, and none of the problems. More men than women experience this level of keto success. “Testosterone has far less to do with aggression than most assume. Within the normal range, individual differences in testosterone levels don’t predict who will be aggressive. Moreover, the more an organism has been aggressive, the less testosterone is needed for further aggression. When testosterone does play a role, it’s facilitatory—testosterone does not 'invent' aggression. It makes us more sensitive to triggers of aggression. Also, rising testosterone levels foster aggression only during challenges to status. Finally, crucially, the rise in testosterone during a status challenge does not necessarily increase aggression; it increases whatever is needed to maintain status. In a world in which status is awarded for the best of our behaviors, testosterone would be the most prosocial hormone in existence.”
While I'm not a big advocate of hormone therapy, Nisha Jackson has a very intrigueing view on this type of therapy and why it would benefit women going through Perimenopause. She gives concise reasons on why our bodies react the way they do during this time in our lives. The book was very interesting and eye-opening. Alot of what she says makes sense. She also gives you tools needed to get through this time.

This book helped make me feel like I was in control of my syptoms. I've been to doctors who just wanted to put me on anti-depressants. But this book helped me sort out my syptoms and decide on natural remedies to control things like night sweats and mood swings. I am 50, and there may come a day when I do have to resort to prescription medications, but for now I can manage it on my own.
In this provocative and paradigm-shattering book, Martie Haselton, the world's leading researcher on sexuality and the ovulation cycle, takes a deep, revealing look at the biological processes that so profoundly influence our behavior and sets forth a radical new understanding of women's bodies, minds, and sexual relationships, one that embraces hormonal cycles as adaptive solutions to genuine biological challenges. At the core of Hasleton's new Darwinian feminism is her remarkable discovery that humans, like our animal cousins, possess a special phase of sexuality, called estrus, which comes with a host of physiological and behavioral changes.

So, if we now know this as the new formula for fat loss, then surely we need to start thinking about all the factors that upset our hormonal balance and, therefore, ultimately make us fat. But I'll tell you a secret before we get into a discussion of the eight most common fat-packing hormonal imbalances and the reasons why we are fat. This program fixes them all.

i'm sad this was promoted as being helpful for hormonal imbalances whereas really this is just a poorly written, poorly cited and not very effective diet book. if you were eating fast food and processed/refined things prior to following this diet, it might help you to clean out your system and lose weight but this is absolutely not a hormone reset and has very little if any merit to the science of the approach. i can tell you it hasn't worked for me so far, i'm 14 days in, and i'm following it to a T and have spent hundreds on all the extra suggested supplements.

In personalized lifestyle medicine, sometimes one person’s superfood is another person’s poison. Such is the case with oxalates, which are found in high concentrations in many presumed health foods. Once I started testing, I realized that many of my patients were experiencing the downstream consequences of excess oxalate intake, usually in the form of green smoothies … [Read More...]
